What are Peanuts?
Peanuts (Arachis hypogaea) are a legume that originated in South America. They go by a variety of names, such as groundnuts, earthnuts, and goobers. As a legume, they’re related to beans, lentils, and soy.
Source of Peanuts
The peanut plant probably originated in Peru or Brazil in South America. European explorers first discovered peanuts in Brazil. Peanuts were grown as far north as Mexico when the Spanish began their exploration of the new world. The explorers took peanuts back to Spain, and from there traders and explorers spread them to Asia and Africa. Africans were the first people to introduce peanuts to North America begging in the 1700s.
Peanuts and Nutrition
- Peanuts are very filling and can be considered an effective component of a weight loss diet.
- As a source of many heart-healthy nutrients, peanuts may help prevent heart disease. What’s more, they may cut your risk of gallstones.
- Peanuts contain various plant compounds. These include antioxidants, such as coumaric acid and resveratrol, as well as antinutrients like phytic acid.
- Peanuts are an excellent source of many vitamins and minerals. These include biotin, copper, niacin, folate, manganese, vitamin E, thiamine, phosphorus, and magnesium.
- Peanuts are low in carbs. This makes them a good dietary choice for people with diabetes.

Uses
Peanuts have a variety of industrial end uses. Paint, varnish, lubricating oil, leather dressings, furniture polish, insecticides, and nitroglycerin are made from peanut oil. Soap is made from saponified oil, and many cosmetics contain peanut oil and its derivatives. The protein portion is used in the manufacture of some textile fibers. Peanut shells are used in the manufacture of plastic, wallboard, abrasives, fuel, cellulose (used in rayon and paper), and mucilage (glue).

Specification Data Sheet
This Sudanese standard is formulated by the technical committee No.4 formed according to the administrative decree of the SSM0/1/A/Idated 18/8/01. It applies to Peanuts. On formulating this standard the committee has referred to international publications and works of Sudanese researchers on the subject.
Peanuts exporting process
- Our kernels are packed in 25kg or 50 kg polypropylene (PP) bags or Jute bags.
- Then we load the 20 feet containers with up to 18 metric tons of peanuts kernels.
- The in shell peanuts are placed in 40 feet containers which load 18 metric tons.
- The minimum order quantity (20ft FCL) takes a period of 10 to 15 days to be on board of the vessel, this period varies depending on the quantity ordered.
- The port of loading is PORTSUDAN (SDPZU), with a possibility to re-export from other nearby ports.
- Estimated time to reach the desired port depends on the shipping lines used and the destination, usually varies between 2 to 8 weeks for the farthest destination.
- The H.S code for the peanut is 12024210 (*)
- Payment documents provided along with the shipment.
- Sudanese peanuts is falling among the products which the US sanctions against Sudan has not exempted, therefore cannot be exported directly from PORTSUDAN to the US market unless obtaining a special OFAC license.
